Publication date: 05 May 2023

УЗБЕКИСТАН – The Sudochye Lake on the territory of Uzbekistan was included in the list of wetlands of international importance protected by the Ramsar Convention on April 30, 2023.

The Sudochye is a lake in the Muynak region of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, which is part of Uzbekistan. In the past, the Sudochyе was the largest intra-delta reservoir of the Amudarya. To date, the lake has become much shallower and is not a single body of water, as it was before, but a disparate system of shallow lakes.

The Ramsar Convention, or the Convention on Wetlands, was adopted in February 1971 in the Iranian city of Ramsar. Today more than 170 states are its participants.

CAREC implements the “Ramsar Regional Initiative for Central Asia” project in the partnership with the Ramsar Convention Secretariat under the financial support of German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
