Glasgow, UK, November 10, 2021 – The side-event “Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change initiatives” was held in Central Asia Pavilion: 5 countries – 1 region – 1 voice in online and offline mode.
The IPCC has launched its latest report in August 2021 with a special focus on the regional aspects of climate change. This event aims at presenting the key findings of this report from a Central Asian perspective.
Central Asia is one of the most climate vulnerable regions in the world as the rate of the increase of temperature is significantly higher than the global average rate. At the same time there is a lack of climate related studies in the region which could enrich the coverage and information available about Central Asia available in the IPCC reports. This side-event will also encourage young scientists and researchers to contribute to the work of the IPCC and enrich IPCC’s further reports with information about the countries of Central Asia.
The side-event is organized by the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC) with the participation of representatives of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in the framework of the project "Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program for Aral Sea Basin" (CAMP4ASB) supported financially by the World Bank. And also, in cooperation with Nazarbayev University.
The Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), being observer to IPCC, under the CAMP4ASB project promotes modern tools and methodologies for climate change observations, studies and exchange of relevant knowledge and experience by scientists in Central Asia.
The side-event was held in the Pavilion “Central Asia: 5 countries – 1 region – 1 voice at COP26”, where Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan showcase their achievements, results, and perspectives through a single regional platform. The Pavilion is organized by CAREC in cooperation with EC IFAS and IGTIPC under financial support of the World Bank, OSCE, ERG, FAO and UNDP.
