What are NDCs?

Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) are strategic plans aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and adapting to climate change. These plans are developed by the responsible government agencies and include a roadmap of country actions aimed at keeping global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius. By ratifying the Paris Agreement, the states have committed to develop NDCs and update them every 5 years. Based on reliable data, the NDCs help states initiate a transformational transition to greener and more sustainable development.
In 2023, the first of a series of global "stocktakes" will be held to assess progress toward the goals of the Paris Agreement. This process will encourage countries to take ambitious climate action and implement it.
