Kyrgyzstan Hosts a training workshop of the European Space Agency

From 24–27 November 2025, a capacity-building training organized by the European Space Agency (ESA) with the support of the World Bank is being held in the Kyrgyz Republic, under the KG RESILAND project, implemented by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic

The primary goal of the training is to familiarize specialists with the GMF and GISAT approaches for identifying and mapping degraded lands, as well as to study the interrelationships between land degradation processes and the frequency of mudflow events.

On 25th and 26th November, participants of the training will travel to target sites of the KG RESILAND project in the Osh Region to conduct field data collection. In the final stage, on 27 November, a practical session is planned, applying the GMF and GISAT methods based on materials collected during the field observations

The training is attended by representatives of: the Department of Monitoring and Forecasting of Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, the “Selvodzashita” Service under the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the State Agency for Land Resources, Cadastre, Geodesy and Cartography under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Scientific-Production Center for Forestry of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Institute of Water Problems and Hydropower of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The KG RESILAND project is aimed at increasing landscape resilience, reducing the vulnerability of territories to natural hazards, and strengthening the capacity of state institutions for monitoring degraded lands.

The Kyrgyz Republic Resilient Landscape Restoration Project (KG RESILAND) is part of the World Bank’s RESILAND CA+ program, aimed at strengthening landscape resilience across Central Asian countries. Similar national and regional activities are also being implemented in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

The Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) implements the regional component of the Kyrgyz Republic Resilient Landscape Restoration Project.
