On 16 June 2026, a practical workshop entitled “Enhancing Forest and Ecosystem Protection in the Republic of Tajikistan through Improved Access to Analytical Information for Identifying Priority Areas for Public and Private Investments in High-Value Tree Crops” was held in Dushanbe under the framework of the Resilient Landscape Restoration Project in the Republic of Tajikistan (RESILAND Tajikistan).

The workshop was opened by Muhibullo Junaidzoda, Director of the Investment Projects Implementation Center under the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. In his remarks, he highlighted the importance of sustainable forest resource management, restoration of degraded lands, and attracting investments in high-value tree crops as key elements for preserving the country’s natural capital.

Participants were also welcomed by Asferachew Abate, World Bank Mission Team Leader and Senior Environmental Specialist, who emphasized the importance of analytical studies in supporting evidence-based decision-making and increasing private sector engagement in forest landscape restoration.

The event was organized by the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with the World Bank Group. Representatives of government institutions, research organizations, international partners, the private sector, and forestry specialists participated in the workshop.

During the event, participants were presented with the findings of an analytical study prepared under the RESILAND Tajikistan Project. The study aims to identify the most promising tree species and suitable areas for investment that can generate environmental, social, and economic benefits.

Particular attention was given to the potential cultivation of high-value tree crops, including pistachio, almond, and peach, as well as fruit trees such as apple, pear, plum, cherry, and pomegranate. Expanding these value chains can contribute to job creation, increased private sector participation, higher rural incomes, and the restoration of degraded lands.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants discussed the study’s recommendations, exchanged views on opportunities for developing value chains, and identified next steps for promoting sustainable investments in the forestry sector and landscape restoration initiatives across Tajikistan.

The Tajikistan Resilient Landscapes Restoration Project is part of the World Bank’s RESILAND CA+ program, aimed at strengthening landscape resilience across Central Asian countries. Similar national and regional activities are also being implemented in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
The Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) implements the regional component of the Tajikistan Resilient Landscape Restoration Project.
