Almaty, Kazakhstan, March 30, 2026. A meeting was held at the office of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) with Ambassador Bakyt Dzhusupov, OSCE Coordinator of Economic and Environmental Activities, and Nuraddin Murshudlu, Senior Economic and Environmental Adviser at the OSCE Programme Office in Astana. CAREC was represented at the meeting by Batyr Mamedov, Executive Director, Dilovarsho Dustzoda, Adviser to the Executive Director, and Valeriya Orlova, OSCE RTEET Project Manager and specialist of the EPCM program.
The parties discussed prospects for further interaction on issues of sustainable energy transition, development of educational initiatives, and strengthening regional dialogue in Central Asia.
During the meeting, two upcoming events were reviewed. The first of them, a regional workshop on systemic and market integration of variable renewable energy in Central Asia, will be held on April 1–2, 2026, in Almaty with the assistance of the Regional Working Group on Education for a Just and Inclusive Energy Transition (RTEET). The workshop will combine discussions on policy approaches, market mechanisms, technological solutions, and the training of specialists necessary for the effective integration of renewable energy sources into the region's power systems.
A separate topic of the meeting was the Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC), held within the framework of the Regional Environmental Summit (RES 2026) in Astana in April 2026 with the support of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. One of the conference events will be Session 3.1 "Workforce Development and Research Cooperation to Advance Renewable Energy in Central Asia" conducted with the support of the OSCE under the RTEET project. The main focus during the session will be on issues of specialist training, strengthening research ties, and developing partnerships between universities, government structures, and the private sector.
The parties also noted the role of educational programs as one of the key tools for long-term transformations in the region. In particular, the significance of the Central Asian Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development, implemented with the support of the OSCE, was emphasized for strengthening professional potential and promoting cross-sectoral exchange.
Following the meeting, the participants confirmed their mutual interest in continuing joint work, including in the context of future Central Asia Climate Change Conferences. The parties also presented current initiatives and projects and exchanged views on further steps to develop the partnership in the field of ecology, climate, and sustainable development.
