On May 6, 2026, a meeting was held at the headquarters of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) between CAREC Executive Director Batyr Mammedov and Alexander Timchenko, Director General of the Regional Public Foundation “Sodeistvie” under the Association of Lake Regions for Environmental Security, Innovative Technologies, Science, Arts and Education of the Russian Federation.

The main objectives of the Association of Lake Regions are to unite the efforts of government institutions, public organizations, educational and research institutes, business circles, and cultural and educational organizations, as well as to draw attention to the challenges facing lake systems and promote joint efforts to address them.
The parties discussed the recent activities of CAREC and the Association, as well as prospects for development and new opportunities for cooperation in such areas as strengthening interregional interaction on water issues, knowledge exchange, and organizing joint events within the framework of international forums and conferences in Central Asia and beyond.
Batyr Mammedov assured the partners of his support for new joint initiatives aimed at using CAREC’s unique mandate and the Association’s international expertise to promote environmental cooperation. Special attention was given to the possibility of CAREC’s participation in the Baikal International Environmental Water Forum, which will take place in September this year.
