Within the framework of the Tajikistan Resilient Landscapes Restoration Project, a working mission was carried out from 23 to 27 February 2026 to select and deliver planting materials to Pasture User Unions (PUUs).
High-quality fruit tree seedlings meeting established standards were selected in specialized nurseries. They were subsequently delivered to PUUs in the districts of Qubodiyon, Shahritus and Nosiri Khusrav in Khatlon region, Ayni and Panjakent city in Sughd region, as well as Vanj, Rushan and Shugnan of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.
In total, the following seedlings were delivered:
· 7,750 apple seedlings
· 6,750 cherry seedlings
· 334 apricot seedlings
· 501 almond seedlings
· 500 peach seedlings
· 668 walnut seedlings
The establishment of orchards will be supported by the introduction of a drip irrigation system, including water reservoirs, pumping equipment and distribution pipelines. In addition, the installation of metal fencing is planned to protect the orchards.
Consultations were also conducted with PUU members on agrotechnical requirements, including planting techniques, pruning methods and further tree maintenance.
The implementation of these activities creates a solid foundation for establishing modern high-yield orchards, increasing rural household incomes and strengthening landscape resilience in the target areas of the country.
The Tajikistan Resilient Landscapes Restoration Project is part of the World Bank’s RESILAND CA+ program, aimed at strengthening landscape resilience across Central Asian countries. Similar national and regional activities are also being implemented in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
The Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) implements the regional component of the Tajikistan Resilient Landscape Restoration Project.
