COP21 in Paris: Climate Change Agreement is signed.
196 nations adopted the first global pact to fight climate change on December 12, 2015. This agreement will replace the active nowadays Kyoto Protocol. The agreement sets the goal of combating global warming in average temperature to "well below 2°C above preindustrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C by 2050." In the frameworks of this agreement, developing countries will have an opportunity to get additional funding to switch from fossil fuel to greener sources of energy and adapt to climate change effects, the developed world will provide $100 billion a year.
In 2015, CAREC in close cooperation with international partners facilitated the regional dialogue platform, bringing on board the countries of Central Asia to discuss challenges, opportunities and readiness of the region in times of a new Global Climate Agreement.
