Progress Assessment: World Bank Mission Visits Project Areas of RESILAND Tajikistan

A delegation of the World Bank mission, led by Asferachew Abate, Senior Environmental Specialist at the World Bank, reviewed the implementation process of the “Sustainable Landscape Restoration in the Republic of Tajikistan” project.

The World Bank mission is taking place in Tajikistan from October 6 to 17, 2025, in accordance with the work plan of the World Bank and the Center for Implementation of Investment Projects of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan (CEP Tajikistan).

Main objectives of the mission:

­   assess the results of project implementation;

­   review the current progress of activities;

­   evaluate the effectiveness of the measures taken;

­   monitor the project’s compliance with environmental and social standards;

­   collect relevant data and conduct field visits;

­   analyze the implementation of agreed actions following the mid-term review held in March 2025.

During the visit, the mission team is traveling to project areas to study progress on the ground and interact with local authorities and beneficiaries. In particular, a meeting was held with the Chairman of Vanj District. During the meeting, the district head expressed gratitude for the project implementation and highlighted its important role in improving the ecological situation and socio-economic development of the region.

Key achievements highlighted include:

­   establishment of agroforestry systems contributing to ecological improvement and climate change mitigation;

­   provision of agricultural machinery and equipment ensuring timely sowing and harvesting;

­   development of greenhouse farming, enabling increased production of fresh vegetables and higher household incomes.

In the coming days, the World Bank mission plans visits to the Khatlon and Sughd regions to continue monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of project implementation on site.
