KG RESILAND. Photo Report. International Scientific Conference on Water and Energy Resources and Climate Risks

Bishkek – Kyrgyzstan – today, an International Scientific Conference on Water and Energy Resources and Climate Risks in Central Asia as a Basis for Achieving Sustainable Landscapes was held in the conference hall of the National Historical Museum of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Leading scientists and researchers of Central Asia presented the results of their work in the following areas:

  •    Assessment of the water and energy balance of the Kyrgyz Republic;

  • ­   Climate modeling of mountain river runoff formation;

  • ­   Modern methods of glacier monitoring using remote sensing technologies;

  • ­   Studies of groundwater resources in the Chui Valley;

  • ­   Analysis of hydrological conditions of regional river basins;

  • ­   Application of innovative tools for assessing climate risks.

The event was organized by the Institute of Water Problems and Hydropower of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, with the support of the Kyrgyz Republic Resilient Landscape Restoration Project (KG RESILAND project), implemented by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic within the framework of the World Bank’s regional RESILAND CA+ program.

The KG RESILAND project in Kyrgyzstan focuses on strengthening community resilience to natural disasters such as mudflows and floods, restoring degraded landscapes, improving the living conditions of rural populations, and promoting the sustainable management of natural resources.

The Kyrgyz Republic Resilient Landscape Restoration Project is part of the World Bank’s RESILAND CA+ program, aimed at strengthening landscape resilience across Central Asian countries. Similar national and regional activities are also being implemented in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
