TASHKENT. On October 30 – November 1 CAREC specialists took active participation at the conference “Social science knowledge and sustainable agricultural development along the Silk Road”. The event was organized by the Ministry of Higher and Secondary specialized education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Innovative development, Scientific Research Institute of Agricultural Economics (Uzbekistan), Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO) and TIIAME.
The main aim of the conference was to stimulate the academic environment for the social sciences of agricultural development in Central Asia. Besides, participants presented the results of a number of ongoing research projects. Among the participants were national and international researchers, scientists of agricultural economics, representatives of ministries, agencies and various institutes.
During the conference participants discussed the following topics:
- Reforms in agriculture
- Introduction of innovative technologies in agriculture
- Development of postgraduate education and quality of research
- Impact of climate change and agricultural sustainability
- Land use
- Water governance
- Farm restructuring and labour relations
- Cooperative and collective relations in rural areas
- The development of value chains in agriculture
CAREC shared its experience and ideas on innovative approaches in linking the research and practice in the water sector. Also, the specialists presented several projects and initiatives implemented by CAREC. For example, on the special organized Session “Research-based methods in enhancing water resource management” the audience learned about modelling of water flows and water-related ecosystem services in different conditions, the impact of climate change, and water diplomacy. In addition, the participants visited CAREC-TIIAME Innovations and Scientific Research Cluster after the session.
After the presentation audience had a chance to ask various interesting questions and to discuss gained knowledge and information. It should be noted that all materials, presented during the conference, will be published in a peer-reviewed electronic edition “Central Asian Journal of Water research”.
